Roles at the Company
Concept Artist in the Design Development Department. Responsible for creating various concept art, including characters and backgrounds.

Why did you join Nagoshi Studio?

I was previously involved in the development of a major title at another game company, but because of the long history of that series, the image of the game was set in stone. That in itself is a wonderful thing, but I personally wanted to work in a way that allowed me more freedom to create my own world setting. In that respect, Nagoshi Studio, which makes completely new games on a large scale, was very attractive to me.

What is it like to work at Nagoshi Studios?

When I joined the company in April 2022, I had the least career experience of anyone in the development staff. I felt a little pressure because of that, but once I started working, everyone seemed frank and easy to communicate with. Even now, two years later, if I have any problems in my work, I can consult with my supervisor or colleagues, and they’re always willing to help.

At my previous company, most of the work was done remotely, so I was initially concerned about the full in-office work style at Nagoshi Studio. However, after starting to work here, I found it to be quite good. The access from Ebisu Station is excellent. Being able to communicate casually at the office and build relationships through face-to-face interactions is very meaningful to me.

What kind of atmosphere does the team have?

I think the atmosphere in the Design Development Department is very good. Currently, the Backgrounds team is the one I interact with the most in my work, and they are very lively. I also work often with 3D artists and planners, among others. In such cases, the environment seems to be conducive to constructive discussions, without being restricted by sectional job descriptions. The number of staff has grown from just over 10 when I joined the company to more than 60 today [as of May 2024], but the openness of communication and the calm atmosphere have not changed.

Can you describe a time when your work feels most gratifying?

It makes me happy to see my concept art take shape within a game. Concept art is intended only to show direction, not to present a finished product. The process of creating it in the game naturally involves the tastes and ideas of the 3D artists. I find my job rewarding when I see the finished objects in the game, and it feels like the fun of a band having a jam session.

Please give a word to those considering a career change to Nagoshi Studio.

Again, I highly recommend this studio to game developers who want to create completely new games with freedom of ideas. There are probably few places in Japan where a person can have the privilege of working in an environment like this on novel consumer-oriented games that are not part of a series or related works. If you are interested in changing your work environment, including what you create, come work with us.
