Why did you join Nagoshi Studio?
After working for a game maker for seven years after graduating, I worked in a different industry for a while, but I accomplished what I wanted to do there and came back to the game industry. When I was looking for a new job, the most important thing for me was to work with excellent creators. On top of that, it was important for me to be involved in the development of large consumer-oriented games. I joined Nagoshi Studio because I felt that I could fulfill both of those needs and put my full potential into my work.
What is it like to work at Nagoshi Studios?
There are many experienced game creators here, and they’re easy to work with. This is a tendency that holds true not only for the programmers but also for the company as a whole. Many of the staff have experience in various kinds of game production in the past, and in general, communication is smooth and problem-solving ability is high. It has been two years since I joined the company, and the company has grown in size, but the increase in staff has not changed that feeling. I think it’s great that we’ve been able to attract so many talented creators since the start of the company.
I feel that we are blessed not only with talented personnel but also with excellent equipment. All of our development staff are provided with some of the highest-spec PCs available on the market, making daily tasks very comfortable. It’s great to have a stress-free PC environment.
What kind of atmosphere does the team have?
The programmer team members don’t work in silence on separate tasks. Rather, we have a policy of sharing the content and progress of our work with each other. Even in the event of a sudden shortage of staff, other members of the team can immediately step in to help, and there is a system in place to ensure a smooth handover of work.
In terms of personality, many people here have a calm demeanor. Since many of our staff have long careers in the gaming industry, each person has their own unique policies and ways of thinking. However, they also possess the capacity to accept and appreciate the values of others. Therefore, I believe it is a team where new members can easily communicate.
Can you describe a time when your work feels most gratifying?
We are currently developing our first game as Nagoshi Studio, and of course it’s completely new. Nowadays, many games makers create games that are sequels or spin-offs of a series, or based on their own past titles, so it is difficult to get a chance to create a large-scale consumer game from the ground up. It is a tough challenge to create not only the technical aspects and assets, but also the development tools, libraries, and workflow from scratch.
Please give a word to those considering a career change to Nagoshi Studio.
Again, at Nagoshi Studio, you can work with excellent people in the best development environment. Also, I personally like the size of the studio. Since it isn’t large, communication among the staff flows smoothly, and the scope of work that staff can get involved with at their own discretion is quite broad. Another feature is that those who have built their careers as programmers can focus fully on writing code if they want to.
